The Winter Performance programme in Elmhurst’s Studio Theatre at the end of term was an opportunity for students to be back on stage doing what they love to do…dance! Ticketed for parents, the show included many of the pieces that had been scheduled for the summer’s 'Elevate' that was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic.
The show included performances by all year groups and enabled the students to collaborate with a range of Elmhurst teachers and some distinguished individuals and companies from the dance sector.
Mark Baldwin OBE, an Elmhurst Governor and former Artistic Director of Rambert created Melody Space set to Handel’s ‘The Messiah’ for Year 13 students; Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Laura Day created First Light for Year 7, and Folk Song Suite for Years 8-10. Year 11 danced Sleepwalkers inspired by the New Adventures’ production of Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty, created by New Adventures Resident Artist Kerry Biggin. Year 11 performed an excerpt from the West End and Broadway musical hit Hairspray, and Year 12 performed an excerpt from Giselle, arranged by Michael Raynaud.
Graduates graced the stage in Reunion by flamenco teacher Ana Garcia, Being by guest choreographer Peter Leung, and a Classical Finale arranged by teachers new to Elmhurst, Sonia Fajardo and Joshua Barwick.
We look forward to opening our theatre doors to members of the public, and more friends and supporters in 2022!
