Last month we opened our doors to students from across the UK to attend some very special masterclasses facilitated by stars of Birmingham Royal Ballet and contemporary dance.
On Sunday 20th November we were joined by dance world glitterati who facilitated a range of ballet, contemporary and repertoire workshops at the school. The professional-led classes aimed to help young students discover what it is like to be trained by some of the sector’s leading dancers and choreographers.
Between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm, seventeen young dancers aged 11-16 attended the masterclasses delivered by Birmingham Royal Ballet Principal dancer (and one of our Board members) Brandon Lawrence and First Soloist Yvette Knight, and choreographer Jacob Wye. After the workshops, Brandon Lawrence was joined by his fellow BRB Principal Dancer Samara Downs to deliver a short performance and our artistic director Robert Parker answered questions about vocational training at the school.
The feedback from the participants and facilitators has been extremely positive and we hope to run more masterclasses soon. Watch this space!
