Our annual Winter Performance: A Sharing of Students’ Dance Work this year took place on Thursday 15 December and was an opportunity for parents to watch their child dance and witness the progress they’ve made during the first term of the current academic year. For parents of the Year 7 Lower School students, it marks the very first time they have watched their child dance in our studio theatre at Elmhurst.
As part of our year-long Centenary celebrations, we have been looking into the development of practice dancewear throughout the last 100 years. During the Winter Performance, the Lower School students honoured Elmhurst’s remarkable history by wearing dancewear typical to each decade, from 1923 when the school was founded by Helen Mortimer to 2022 and the sustainable fabrics the students wear today.
The Winter Performance consisted of the sharing of work performed by Year 7 Girls (Artistic Tutor, Nicky Linzie); Year 7 Boys (Artistic Tutor, Andrea Tredinnick); Year 8 Girls (Artistic Tutor, Nicky Linzie); Year 8 Boys (Artistic Tutor, Jim Grundy); Year 9 Girls (Artistic Tutor, Lei Zhao); Year 9 Boys (Artistic Tutor, Sonia Fajardo); Year 10 Girls (Artistic Tutor, Sonia Fajardo); Year 10 Boys (Artistic Tutor, Michael Raynaud); Year 11 Girls (Artistic Tutor, Gloria Grigolato); Year 11 Boys (Artistic Tutor, Lee Robinson); Year 12 Women (Artistic Tutor, Andrea Tredinnick); Year 12 Men (Artistic Tutor, Lee Robinson); Graduate Year The Nutcracker Grand Pas de Deux (Arranged by Michael Raynaud and Rehearsed by Michael Raynaud, Joshua Barwick, Robert Parker); Year 13 Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker (Arranged and rehearsed by Gloria Grigolato and Lee Robinson; Graduate Year The Waltz of the Snowflakes from The Nutcracker (Arranged by Michael Raynaud and Rehearsed by Michael Raynaud and Joshua Barwick).
All the above was made possible with thanks to the Elmhurst artistic team and pianists and the generous support of the Friends of Elmhurst.
