Houseparent (with potential for further responsibility in boarding for the right candidate)

Salary: £27,900 per annum + furnished accommodation
Contract: Permanent, term-time only (with a small amount of admin work during the holidays such as responding to parent emails/ queries and ensuring the boarding house is organised and ready for students returning)
Location: Elmhurst Ballet School, Birmingham

Elmhurst Ballet School, in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, is a world-renowned centre for the training and education of talented, passionate and committed young ballet dancers. We are looking for a dedicated, compassionate‑ and highly organised Houseparent to join our Pastoral Team. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the wellbeing, development and daily lives of young people living away from home while pursuing elite vocational training.

The Houseparent will lead and manage a Boarding House, supported by a Deputy Houseparent and working under the direction of a member of the pastoral middle leadership‑ team. For the right candidate, there is potential to take on further responsibility within the boarding team as the role develops.

Applicants should have proven leadership skills, excellent organisational abilities and experience of working in a boarding environment. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who remains calm and professional, and who is committed to contributing fully to the life of the school.

This position includes year-round‑ furnished accommodation, offering an immersive role at the heart of our boarding community.

Contemporary Dance Teacher/s - Release-based (Limon) and/or Cunningham techniques

Salary: £39.02 per hour

Join Elmhurst Ballet School and help shape the next generation of contemporary ballet artists.

 Elmhurst Ballet School, in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet, is seeking inspiring and forward-thinking Contemporary Dance Specialists to join our Artistic Team, to help us prepare young dancers for today’s diverse and evolving industry.

We are looking for a dynamic practitioner who brings passion, creativity and rigour to the studio- someone who can challenge, support and elevate young artists as they grow in technical ability, physical intelligence, creative confidence and professional readiness.

 

About the Role

As a key member of our Contemporary Faculty, you will deliver high-quality training across a range of contemporary techniques including Release, Limón, Cunningham, contact work and improvisation - alongside experience or openness to drawing from commercial or culturally diverse styles.

You will nurture dancers through a comprehensive curriculum that prioritises:

  • technical excellence
  • physical conditioning and dance science-informed practice
  • musicality, phrasing and rhythmic play
  • creative problem-solving and choreographic development
  • ensemble collaboration and performance artistry
  • strong contact work

You will also play an active role in student support, choreography, rehearsals, performance preparation and pastoral care, helping students develop resilience, confidence and a strong sense of artistic identity.

 

About You

We welcome applicants who are:

  • Experienced teachers of contemporary dance with strong professional backgrounds.
  • Skilled in floorwork, contact work, improvisation and dynamic movement vocabulary.
  • Passionate about developing young talent through safe, inclusive and inspiring teaching.
  • Engaged with current industry practices and committed to lifelong learning.
  • Collaborative, organised and energetic, with excellent communication skills.

A recognised teaching qualification is desirable but not essential for the right candidate.
