Student Support

‘At Elmhurst Ballet School, we believe that the health, wellbeing, and happiness of our students are the foundations of their growth and success, both in their dance training and personal development.’

Student support is at the heart of everything we do. We strive to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and encouraged to thrive, both personally and professionally, during their time with us.

The relationships between our staff and students are built on trust, mutual respect, and genuine care. Our dedicated team works closely with the entire school community to foster a culture of wellbeing, ensuring that each student is nurtured holistically, as both an individual and an artist.

We are open and transparent with both students and parents about the challenges that can arise throughout a young person’s development. Rather than simply reacting to issues, we aim to provide proactive, preventative support, helping to minimise any obstacles that may arise along the way.

The school’s student support systems and health and wellbeing curriculum are designed to equip students with the self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and social skills they need to navigate life’s challenges. Our goal is to ensure that they leave the school not only as accomplished dancers but also as well-rounded individuals ready for fulfilling and meaningful lives beyond the studio.

At Elmhurst Ballet School, each student is assigned to a form group, and every day begins with dedicated form time led by a Form Tutor. Form Tutors play a vital role in students' daily lives and act as the primary point of contact for parents, ensuring regular communication and support

Each key stage also has a designated Progress Leader, who not only oversees students' artistic and academic development but also serves as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leader (DDSL). Progress Leaders are essential to student support, working closely with both students and teaching staff to monitor progress, wellbeing, and safety. They meet weekly to discuss safeguarding concerns, and they regularly review each student’s achievements, effort, and any wellbeing issues with tutors. This proactive, collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive and responsive support system for every student at Elmhurst.

Students support, wellbeing, behaviour and boarding at Elmhurst are overseen by the Vice Principal (Student support) Erica Reeves, who is also the Designated Safeguarding lead. Erica is supported by a large and experienced safeguarding team who work collaboratively to provide individualised specialist support for all students.
