Elmhurst Stars

Wednesday June 30th 2021

We often see the youngest students of our Lower School or Elmhurst Young Dancers’ Programme appear in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker, or students of Elmhurst Ballet Company who have recently been seen in Sir Peter Wright’s production of everyone’s favourite Christmas ballet. Earlier this summer it was the turn of another year group to be given the invaluable performance experience with our associate company as the Year 13 women appeared in Sir David Bintley’s Cinderella at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Sir David Bintley’s award-winning Cinderella for Birmingham Royal Ballet received its world premiere in 2010. For the summer 2021 performances at the Rep Theatre, the ballet was specially adapted with a reduced Prokofiev score and staging adaptations to allow for social distancing and performer 'bubbles'. BRB’s Rehearsal Director Marion Tait and Choreologist Patricia Tierney selected Year 13 students to bubble and dance the roles of ‘Stars’ in Act 1 and Act 3 in glittering performances that transported Cinderella to the ball.

Professional performances, company classes and rehearsals, backstage and onstage opportunities remain an integral part of the Elmhurst student experience and we are grateful to BRB and its Director, Carlos Acosta CBE, for granting permission for these priceless moments in our students’ training to continue. We look forward to sharing more student performance opportunities and stories with you soon.
