Lexus Birmingham Open Tennis Tournament 2026
Last weekend our students were proud to take part in the Lexus Birmingham Open on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June, with students showcasing their talent at one of the UK's most prestigious grass-court tennis tournaments.
Held at the historic Edgbaston Priory Club, the Lexus Birmingham Open marks the start of the grass-court season and welcomes some of the world's leading female tennis players to Birmingham. The tournament has a rich heritage, with roots stretching back to the Midland Counties Championships, first held at the Club in 1882.
Across the weekend, Elmhurst students had the opportunity to perform for audiences attending the tournament, bringing the artistry and athleticism of ballet to this celebrated sporting event.
On Saturday, our Graduate Year students presented excerpts from August Bournonville's Napoli, alongside the Actaeon variation from La Esmeralda. Their performances highlighted both technical excellence and vibrant storytelling, captivating spectators.
Sunday saw performances from our Year 12 students. The female dancers performed a reimagined version of the iconic Dying Swan variation from Swan Lake, while the male students presented the energetic Dance of the Argonauts from Sir David Bintley's Orpheus Suite. Together, the works demonstrated the versatility, discipline and artistry that define Elmhurst's training.
Performing at high-profile public events such as the Lexus Birmingham Open provides invaluable experience for our students, allowing them to share their passion for dance with new audiences while developing the confidence and professionalism required for a career in the performing arts.
