Century, our exciting programme of summer shows in 2023, brings Elmhurst Ballet School’s year-long Centenary celebrations to a close.

The performances promise to spotlight the talents of Elmhurst Ballet School students from the weekend Young Dancers’ Programme, the Lower and Upper School, and the Class of 2023 Elmhurst Ballet Company, our graduate year.

In a range of choreography and styles of dance, Century allows our students to consider Elmhurst’s glorious former years and how training and dance has evolved to enable them to succeed, as other generations of students have gone on to do.

Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Flamenco will be on display during Century, highlighting the versatility of Elmhurst students. Ballet highlights include experts from Marius Petipa & Peter Wright’s Coppélia, Classical Concerto by Lee Robinson, la gioia di ballare by Gloria Grigolato, Journey for the entire Lower School by Scottish Ballet Soloist Gavin McCaig, and a work by Rosie Price for the youngest students of the Elmhurst Young Dancers’ Programme.

Eyes will be on Contemporary dance in the year Wayne McGregor became our President. With thanks to an ongoing relationship with Wayne’s award-winning company, Studio Wayne McGregor, Elmhurst Ballet Company performs The End is Where We Start by Company Wayne McGregor Artist, Jordan James Bridge. Avatâra Ayuso, Charlotte Edmonds and Sandrine Monin also choreograph work for Century.

Jazz and Flamenco dance also shape the run of shows in our Studio Theatre in Edgbaston, in more works that promise to bring the house down at the end of our 100th year!

Curtain up at 7pm. Please note: Doors will not open before 6:30pm for access into the main school building.

For guests requiring accessible seating and/or disabled parking, please book your seats using Eventbrite, then email your requirements to development@elmhurstdance.co.uk.

Elmhurst Ballet School

With a menu personally designed by Birmingham-based Michelin star chef Glynn Purnell, live music and a dance performance by our students we will be hosting a very special fundraising evening for our Centenary Summer Ball on Tuesday 11th July 2023.

The evening promises to be a celebration of Birmingham’s dance and culinary talents as Elmhurst draws its Centenary commemorations to a close.

Glynn Purnell is really pleased to be collaborating with us on this event and said: “It has been an absolute pleasure designing a menu that suitably celebrates Elmhurst Ballet School, a brilliant training facility which Birmingham welcomed with open arms when it made the move to our fantastic city in 2004. I’m so pleased to be able to contribute to celebrating 100 years of Elmhurst and seize the opportunity to bring theatricality and elegance to the dinner table at this special event.”

The night will comprise of a drinks and canapes reception, a two-course dinner and the highlight of the evening will be the students’ performance with featured pieces by school alumni now working full-time with Birmingham Royal Ballet, excerpts from Sir Frederick Ashton’s Birthday Offering, and a new creation for the entire Lower School by Northern Ballet Soloist, Gavin McCaig.

Individual tickets are priced at £150 and tables of 10 are available for £1500. To secure your place, please click here
